Still thinking of where to go after you had gotten your higher nitec or 'O' level certificate or you are just a foreigner who are coming to Singapore for further education? Ian Somerhalder Foundation ; Save the Earth.

Hi people, if you are a supporter of Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore from Vampire Diaries) or you simply want to do your part to preserve our planet earth, please do your part at the ISF and give our planet Earth a boost. Earth is where we live and where we belong, so we should unite and protect it together. Watched a quiz show on TV the day before yesterday, and I learnt that "the lung of our Earth" is slowly depleting by the size of one soccer field every minute. Could you even bear to hear that? This means that the Earth oxygen level will be decreasing fast if we do not do something to stop it. Needless to say, the beautiful animals, land or marine, are both being threatened by lawful/illegal human activities. Please do your part by to nurture and protect our animals and habitat at the ISF.

Casinos in Singapore!

Marina Bay Sands

Resort World Sentosa

Resort World Sentosa ; Universal Studios

Ever been to the grand and young casinos of Singapore? Although I am a Singaporean and stay in Singapore, I hadn't been to either of time. Well, partially, I don't gamble, partially, I don't have the money to visit either place yet. However, I hope that I will be able to go there in the future, at least once. Especially the Universal Studios at Resort World Sentosa. That would definitely be a place for families to enjoy. So do visit both places when you arrive in Singapore!

Kung Fu Wing Chun

There are many schools of Chinese martial arts and their history date back to decades, if not centuries. Among the different sects, Wing Chun is one of the most popular and widely practiced. Kung Fu Wing Chun tells the story of origin and development of Wing Chun.

Yim Wing Chun, born in Guangdong, is a young, charming and filial girl, with a strong sense of righteousness. As her mother died when she is really young, Wing Chun and her cousin, Ying Chun are brought up by her father, Yim Yi who runs a popular eatery at Mount Da Liang.

Alls' well in the Yim household, until a local villain, Gao Shing, who wants to marry Wing Chun, forcefully proposed. Wing Chun tries to retaliate, but in vain. While Wing Chun is almost hopeless of wiggling out of the proposal, she came across Ng Mui, a nun who's highly-skilled in martial arts and escaping from the imperial guards.

To find ways to get Wing Chun out of the pending loveless marriage, Ng Mui suggests to Yim Yi that he should counter-propose, telling Shing that he will only agree to the proposal should Shing be able to beat Wing Chun in a martial arts match in three-month time.

Wing Chun soon starts to learn under Ng Mui, and the two bonded more than how teacher and protg would. Wing Chun found the motherly love she always wanted from Ng Mui, especially since her mother's early passing. After training intensively for three months, Wing Chun beats Shing at the match and the wedding is cancelled.

Leung Bao Chou, a handsome, smart and sociable man and Wing Chun are betrothed since young. Both families have been friends for generations and have a profound relationship. Bao Chou has been helping in the family business of Tealeaves trading and had travelled to different parts of China extensively. Despite being a well-travelled and suave trader, he remains an honest and respectable young man, who's also well-versed in Nan Quan.

As Bao Chou is not getting any younger, his parents urge him to marry Wing Chun, whom they said is a gentle and demure girl that will make an excellent wife. Bao Chou soon sets off to another business trip in Yun Gui, which he will also pay Yim Yi and Wing Chun a visit at the same time.

While in the town of Yun Gui, Bao Chou and his assistant, Fatty witnessed a feisty girl beating up a guy. On their way to the Yim's, Fatty even exclaimed that it will be a 'nightmare' for any guy who ends up getting the feisty girl for a wife When Bao Chou arrives at Yim's, he had a rude shock when he realised Wing Chun is the feisty girl he saw earlier. Not wanting to end up in a 'nightmare', Bao Chou and Fatty sneak away, leaving Wing Chun angry and humiliated. Since then, the two will bicker at the sight of each other.

Failing to get Wing Chun's hand, Gao Shing and his friend Lau Yam, tried to humiliate Ying Chun. To avenge her cousin, Wing Chun tries to ambush both Shing and Yam, but failed. At the crucial moment, a mysterious hero came to Wing Chun's rescue. After realizing it is Bao Chou who saved her, love blossoms between the bickering duo.

Yam is not just another villain who picks fights, he is actually the disciple of Kam Ying, an imperial subject who is ruthless and cruel, tasked to capture Ng Mui. Yam was sent by Ying to find the whereabouts of Ng Mui and confirmed her association with the Yims. Ying sent orders to block off all exits of the towns, and spread rumors of the Yims being captured, just to lure Ng Mui from her hiding.

When Wing Chun learnt of Ying's plot, she rushes to join Ng Mui to fight Ying. Not wanting to leave his love in lurch, Bao Chou follows Wing Chun, who is deeply moved by his dedication. After a series of bloody fights, the trio finally defeats Ying.

After the triumph over the evil Ying, Yim Wing Chun continues to enhance and glorify 'Wing Chun' the martial arts that was imparted to her by Master Ng Mui. Wing Chun continues to be taught and passed from generation to generation.

A new movie on "Yong Chun(咏春)"? The percentage I will catch it? Not high. Why? No Donnie Yan(甄子丹), seems boring? I always like how Donnie brings out all the action of the movie. However, this is still a recommendable movie. Check out the new action which will be coming to town soon!

Welcome to Taiwan!

Taiwan is not usually high on the list of destinations for Western tourists. Perhaps this is because the island's international reputation has been shaped more by its IT prowess and longstanding political disputes with mainland China than its culture or tourism, and so many assume that there is very little, if anything, of interest for the casual visitor. However, despite this general perception, Taiwan actually boasts some very impressive scenic sites, and Taipei is a vibrant center of culture and entertainment. The island is also a center of Chinese pop culture with a huge and vibrant entertainment industry. Taiwanese cuisine is also highly regarded among other Asians.

  • Recommend city to visit for the youths!

  • Some great food at Taiwan!

  • Taiwan currency.

Festivals

As Taiwan is dominated by ethnic Chinese, traditional Chinese festivals are celebrated by the Taiwanese. Among the most notable are:

  • Chinese New Year (春節). This is the most important festival for the Taiwanese and many shops and restaurants close on the first three days so it is not an ideal time to visit. However, the days leading up to the festival as well as the fourth to fifteenth days are ideal for soaking up the atmosphere and listening to Chinese New Year songs.
  • Ching Ming Festival (清明節). This is when many Taiwanese would pay respects at their ancestors' graves.
  • Dragon Boat Festival (端午節). This festival honours Qu Yuan, a patriotic official from the state of Chu during the Warring States period of Chinese history who committed suicide by jumping into a river when Chu was conquered by Qin. To prevent the fishes from eating his body, villagers threw rice dumplings into the river to feed the fishes and rowed dragon boats with drums being beaten on them to scare away the fishes. Since then, dragon boat racing has been carried out on this day and rice dumplings are also eaten.
  • Hungry Ghost Festival (中元節). This festival runs throughout the seventh month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that the gates of hell open during this period and hungry ghosts are allowed to roam freely into our world. In order to appease the ghosts and prevent misfortune, many Taiwanese will offer food and burn joss paper for them. In addition, traditional Chinese performances such as Chinese opera and puppet shows are held to appease these wandering spirits.
  • Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節). Legend has it that on this day, a woman known as Chang E swallowed some divine pills to prevent her power hungry husband from becoming immortal. Afraid of being killed by her husband, she fled to the moon and it is believed that the moon shines brightest on this day. This is when many lanterns will be put up for decoration in various parks and shops, which is quite a beautiful sight. Mooncakes are also eaten on this day so it would be an ideal time to try some.

Taiwan is one of the countries which I want to go to, especially with all the great food and shopping which I can go for. Why not? Hope on to the plane and fly to Taiwan today!

Bruce Lee, My Brother

Bruce Lee, My Brother is an action-dramatic biopic of the eponymous martial arts legend as told by his younger brother, Robert Lee. It revolves around Bruce Lee's life as a rebellious adolescent in Hong Kong before he sets off for the USA and conquers the world at the age of 18 with only US$100 in his pocket.

As a young man, Bruce was a rebel who was always engaging in street fights with his buddies, Kong and Unicorn, a fellow child actor who would later appear in Fist of Fury and Way of the Dragon. Invincible as he is as a street fighter, Bruce's romantic escapades are not as smooth and successful. He is head over heels in love with Mandy only to realize his mate Kong shares the same passion.

Against his father's wishes, Bruce studies the Wing Chun martial arts style instead of Tai-chi and tastes his first public triumph at a tournament with his kung-fu skills. On the eve of his triumph, he learns that Kong has become a drug addict and rumbles the drug lord's den together with Unicorn, rendering him the target of both the triads and corrupted cops who want him in jail.

To save his life, Lee's father has no choice but to send him off to San Francisco to pursue his studies. And the rest is history...

Are you going to catch the up-coming action movie about Bruce Lee? I bet I will, with all the "Yong Chun Quan" and "Ye Wen" going around lately, Bruce Lee will definitely become the next big thing! Hope that "Ye Wen 3" will show soon! So do check out Bruce Lee, My Brother at the cinema near you on the 25 November!

Welcome to Japan!

Is Japan a dream holiday for you? Well, it is for me. However, the price is.... not affordable for me. Anyway, for those who dream of visiting Japan, do remember to check out the fascinating inventions. Like the wide variety of vending machines! It obviously is something which you will not be able to see in Singapore! Of course, the Sumo wrestler. Actually they lead quite a hard life, as usually they are trained from young and need to follow very strict rules. Salute to them!

Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil:Afterlife

Played Resident Evil 5 yet? The game graphics of Resident Evil have gradually improve over the years. Needless to say, the story and game play have also improved too. In Resident Evil 5, you'll be able to face more action, fighting even more mutated zombies and of course Wesker who had kidnapped Jill Valentine. Speaking of Wesker, let me talk about Resident Evil: After life too!

After watching Resident Evil: Afterlife, I found that there are great similarities between the zombies and Wesker. Especially Wesker, all his skills of how he dodge bullets, is the same as the Wesker inside the game. Well, I am a real great fan of Resident Evil, anticipating on the next one.

Silent Hill : Shattered Memories.

Well, I wouldn't say that it is as nice compared to other previous Silent Hill game as all you can is run, run and run. Well, you wouldn't be armed with any single weapon, so you can only hear the sound of the monster coming and then run. However, for those who enjoy the excitement of the scariness, you would most likely love this game. As the monsters have become more intelligent compared to the previous series. Even if you hide, they still will manage to find you out, that's the cool part. Personally, I hasn't played it, as I am not really fond of playing horror games (I will have nightmares at night), however, I've seen my boyfriend played it. Just a short review of it anyway, enjoy!

Looking for a place to relax and enjoy yourself during the holidays? Redang Islang would be the place!

Looking for a place to relax and enjoy yourself during the holidays? Redang Island would be the place for you! Redang Island is a small island located in Malaysia. It consists of resorts, beautiful beach and of course a clear-watered sea. You'll be able to go for scuba diving there. But if you aren't, you still be able to see the little fishes from above the water. I've been there once and I've seen some baby sharks myself. So do plan for a holiday there, at Redang Island.

P.S. The omelette there is nice too!
